I was writing ‘The Great Goodwill Tour’ for Nostalgia Corner when I started yearning.
I am so in the mood for a long road trip!
It’s been quite a while since I’ve taken one and the open road is beckoning. While we were busy doing more exotic travel in our younger days, we promised ourselves that we would save the longer road trip for a time when airline travel was no longer appealing. That time is now.
I don’t want to buy an RV or pitch a tent to see the U.S.A. I have a van that will serve me well. Besides, if God wanted us to stay in tents and RV’s, he wouldn’t have invented Holiday Inn! I want to see small town America by day and stay in a quiet, clean room at night.
There are so many places I’ve yet to see! I’ve been to 40 states, but the others have been elusive. Crazy, but I’ve always wanted to visit Wisconsin – could be for the cheese. I’ve never been to Minnesota or Michigan. I’ve been to Indiana twice – once to visit my brother; another time for a class at Purdue. I’ve been to Chicago too. But I can’t say I really saw Indiana or Illinois.
So, I’m thinking we can lump the whole group together and spend a couple of weeks marveling at what I perceive to be a certain beauty and wholesomeness of the entire area.
And in as much as I am in the mood for a road trip, it’s not happening anytime soon. I watch the Weather Channel and I live in Florida. I don’t do cold very well and I don’t do freezing cold at all.
I’m thinking the end of May.
